Teaching & Learning Philosophy

Thank you for visiting my webpage. I am a social constructivist educator and learner. I believe that individuals learn best through the connections they make through their interactions with objects and others. I have been able to bring these beliefs that I learned in the early childhood classroom to my practice teaching students on-line for the Portland State University, Cal Poly Pomona, and Umpqua Community College. Through the use of discussion boards, Flipgrid, ZOOM meetings, and responsive interaction, I have been able to facilitate classroom communities that learn interactively. Each student brings knowledge and experience to our classroom, each of us has the opportunity to learn and grow from each other. I believe that we are all life-long learners. With each course I teach, I learn more about myself as an educator, the field of early childhood education, the students I work with, and children. Some of these lessons have confirmed my beliefs, while others have challenged what I thought I knew and led to new or deeper understanding.
